8 The Golden Circle and the Blue Finale

Saturday 20 June 2026

Our final touring day carried the weight of farewell. At Þingvellir National Park, the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia pulled apart beneath our feet, a reminder of the earth’s restless heart. The valley was crowded, transformed by a music concert scheduled that night. We adjusted, walked the trails, marveled at fissures, and retreated to the cafeteria for coffee, souvenirs, and warmth.

At Geysir, the earth’s plumbing revealed itself. Strokkur erupted every few minutes, the turquoise pool swelling into a dome before blasting water nearly a hundred feet into the sky. The crowd gasped each time, the sulfur scent sharp in the air, the spectacle timeless. Gullfoss, the Golden Falls, humbled us with its roar. The Hvítá River plunged into a canyon, mist rising like smoke, the illusion of the earth swallowing the river whole.

The final day in Iceland carried with it a sense of closure, and nothing captured that feeling better than our visit to the Blue Lagoon. All seven of us joined together, stepping into the milky‑blue geothermal waters that steamed gently against the cool Arctic air. The warmth enveloped us instantly, soothing muscles tired from long runs, endless drives, and countless hikes. Around us, the volcanic landscape framed the lagoon like a natural amphitheater, its dark lava fields contrasting sharply with the shimmering turquoise water. We floated, laughed, and let the mineral‑rich heat wash away the fatigue of the Ring Road. It was more than a dip; it was a collective exhale, a moment of pure relaxation at the very edge of our Icelandic adventure. As the steam rose and the sky stretched wide above, we knew this was the perfect finale — a shared memory that would linger long after the journey home.

That night, we returned to Foss Hotel Baron, the circle complete. But the journey was not yet over.
